Minutes for June 26, 2005
Here are the minutes
for the Brendoken baronial meeting held Sunday June 26,2005 in Smithville.
Lord Brice called the
meeting to order after a short celebration of the birthday of Baroness
Catriona.
Baroness:
Another sewing session for the tabbards has been planned. It will take
place July 13 at the Mill in Smithville in lieu of Thistle's regular meeting.
LadyMageen will have the room available at 5:00 p.m. Please bring sewing
machines
and/or sergers. There was also discussion of making baldrics for archers
rather than the tabbards.
A Baronial Revel will
take place at the Baronial Encampment at Pennsic Tuesday August 16 at
6:30 p.m. Please bring chairs if you wish to sit. Brendoken will also
host the Oaken Baronesses Tea the same day at 2:00 in the Brendoken camp.
This will be for Her Majesty, Her Highness and the Baronesses of the Oaken
Region.
Their Excellencies
have requested recommendations of gentles whose service to the barony
should be recognized.
Baron:
24 gentles are registered to camp in the Brendoken camp at Pennsic. The
location of the camp has not yet been announced. A melee practice for
fighters will take place July 18 at St. Emilian Byzantine Catholic Church
in Brunswick from 6:00-10:00 p.m.
Exchequer:
Lady Bekea announced that the balance (before checks were written) was
$1876.36. An additional $20.00 was collected from the kitty.
Bekea still needs a
list of baronial property.
The barony is now required
to have a Financial Plan and a Financial Committee to make decisions about
Exchequer matters. It was decided that the Financial Committee will consist
of the Seneschal, the Exchequer and all paid SCA members in attendance
at any given meeting. Non members will be requested not to participate
in votes pertaining to financial matters.
Herald:
THL Katarina has passed the office to Lady Gauselin. Katarina will be
sending in the packet for the barony's awards heraldry once she has received
a check from the Exchequer. (Personal checks are not accepted by the College
of Heralds.) A 16 1/2 month delay is anticipated for passage of group
heraldry.
MOAS:
Lady Debfergail is still working on a dance night to be held in the Medina
area. She is aiding new members with the production of garb for Pennsic.
The Baronial Championship
event has been confired with Zion Lutheran Church in North Canton for
September 17. Volunteers are still needed, especially for setup and teardown.
See Debfergail to volunteer. Archery has been approved for the event,
but a net will be needed.
There was much discussion
about the Cleftlands dance event which was scheduled opposite the baronial
championships. The event has been moved to the following weekend but now
conflicts with Three Towers' Hastings event. The event was allowed to
conflict since the dance symposium does not include fighting.
Webmaster:
THL Ailith now has internet access and needs to update the officer listings
on the website. Please send information to her at ailith@neo.rr.com. All
officers will be required to sign paperwork giving permission to publish
personal information on the website.
Chatelaine:
Lady Maerwynn has taken over the position of Chatelaine. She plans to
work on providing help with Gold Key at the Baronial Championships and
to set up a Chatelaine's point for newcomers.
Alderford:
Alderford continues to participate in a number of library demos. The group's
summer event, Oaken Melee School, will take place July 8-10 in Roswell
and will feature melee practice as well as fencing, archery and siege
engines. Lord Giles has volunteered to marshal youth fighting on Saturday
afternoon.
Gwyntarian:
Has also had a number of library demos including a large one at the Cuyahoga
Falls Library. They will be participating in a very large demo at Hudson
Public Library on July 30 and have asked for help from other groups. The
demo will be in celebration of the library building's grand opening and
attendance is expected to be in the thousands. Katarina also announced
that there will be a revel at her home following the demo.
Thistle:
Thistle has been participating in demos this past month and will continue
to do so in July. They will be doing a large demo at Brunswick Public
Library on July 9 from noon until 5:00. The group has several new authorized
fighters. They are looking for a volunteer to serve as Thistle's Knights
Marshal since Lord Durdel will be stepping down from the position. There
will be no fighter practice in August. Lady Mageen announced that there
will be a Thistle Reunion Picnic June 2 at her home beginning at 2:00.
All former Thistle members are invited to attend. Please bring something
to grill and a dish to pass.
Three Towers:
Three Towers has a new Herald and several new members. They have been
participating in a number of library demos as well and will be helping
out with one in Caer Byrbred. Encampment at the Castle was a great success.

Old Business:
None
New Business:
Baroness Catriona will serve as the baronial liaison for the Kingdom Page
School, a program that recognizes the achievements and service of the
Kingdom's youth. Young people in the program and their parents may report
to her.
Lord Giles will be
cooking the Baron & Baroness' lunch at the Oaken Melee School at a
cost of $42. $50 was budgeted for the luncheon which honors the neighboring
landed barons and baronesses. Their Excellencies would like to borrow
tablecloths for this luncheon. Katarina will check to see if a length
of cloth can be located at Ailith's house to be used for tablerunners.
Lady Wulfwen, whose cake was very much admired last year, will be asked
to make another for this year's lunch.
