Nine members of the
populace were also present.
The meeting was called
to order by Lord Brice de Corbet.
Baroness:
Her Excellency Catriona thanked everyone for their efforts to make Brendokenfest
and the Baronial Championships the outstanding success that they were.
She also thanked those in attendance for their support, especially in
their attendance at the meeting the day after the event.
Baron:
His Excellency also thanked everyone for their hard work on the event.
He reported, with the help of Baron Nigel FitzMaurice, that the auction
held during the event to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina
was a huge success. 92 items were donated, and $925 was raised. The money
will be donated to the American Red Cross.
Baron Alexander also
reported that, from what he heard, everyone had a great time at the event.
He and Baroness Catriona wanted to express their gratitude for the ongoing
support of both the officers and the populace of Brendoken.
Autocrat:
Lady Debforgail McKracken reported that while all the finances for the
event have yet to be completed, she believed that the barony made money.
Just under 100 people attended. Lord Brice commented that the North Canton
police were called by neighbors to investigate what was happening at the
church, especially in regards to the archery range. They went away very
satisfied that everything was under control.
Minister of Arts and
Sciences:
Debforgail reported that Robert of Bristol had agreed to become her deputy
with the intention of taking over the position in the near future.
Chronicler:
THL Milica of Varna reminded everyone that items for the Portcullis will
be due next week by Wednesday, September 21.
Herald:
THL Gauselin the Lost has taken Baron Nigel and Lord Frederick of Tollhaus
as deputies. She has also had word that the Barony's award heraldry has
advanced to the next level.
Exchequer:
Lady Bekea announced that the Barony needs money. We are currently spending
more than we take in and will need to have another event or fundraiser
in the spring. There was discussion of the possibility of hosting RUM
in the spring. Maistor Justin reported that a possible site might be available
in Louisville. Lord Brice suggested that the event would be more successful
if held in conjunction with a War College. Her Excellency Catriona will
inform the Kingdom that Brendoken is interested in pursuing this idea.
Seneschal:
There was a discussion of future meeting dates. The new schedule includes
a populace meeting and an officers' meeting in each quarter. It was decided
to try having one populace meeting at a local group's site each quarter.
Meetings will not be held at events due to logistical and time concerns.
The October meeting will be in Alderford, possibly in conjunction with
a Sunday fighter practice. Date to be determined.
Concern was expressed
that some officers have not been attending meetings. The requirement states
that all officers should attend at least one meeting per quarter or send
a deputy.
Marshal:
Sgt. Garth der Eisenzahmer, the Baronial Marshal, has expressed his wish
to step down from that position. A replacement will be sought who is at
least a Marshal-in-Training, and who is willing to train fighters, hold
practices and attend Baronial meetings. An announcement will be placed
in the Portcullis.
There was a lengthy
discussion about the Red Cross auction, especially how communications
were handled both privately and publicly by way of the Gatehouse list.
It was determined that the auction took place once the proper procedures
had been followed. To better promote electronic communication within the
Barony, it was decided to create a new email list to be moderated by one
member of each group: Maistor Justin, Baron Nigel, THL Alaric and Lord
Madog. There will also be an "Announce" list created for official
Baronial information. The committee of the four moderators will work out
the details and report their findings to the Barony.
There was also discussion
of Castel Gwent's advancement to full status and some problems that have
arisen. These are being discussed at Kingdom and Regional levels.
Upcoming events:
November 19, 2005: Road to the Isles - Gwyntarian
February 18, 2006: Masque of Courtly Love - Alderford
There being no further
business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
THL Milica of Varna
Chronicler, Barony of Brendoken
