Minutes for June 25, 2006
Seneschal Brice le
Corbet called the meeting to order after an afternoon demo, fighter practice
at the Mill. 34 gentles were in attendance.
Officers:
Baroness:
Her Excellency thanked everyone for their help at the Encampment at the
Castle event in Three Towers. Everyone had a great time. His Grace, Duke
Edmund took the day on the heavy weapons field, but Brendoken held all
other challenges including rapier, thrown weapons, archery and A&S.
A&S was especially exciting since there was little time to complete
the many entries. The "Lozengia" cake shared by the baronies,
was baked by Baroness Katarina.
Catriona announced that there will be a dinner at Pennsic for invited
guests including the seneschals of the four groups in the Barony. This
dinner will be held the Sunday before War Week and will cost $8.00 per
person. The menu will feature Middle Eastern foods. Those attending should
send their money to Kilij Kiyan ben Yaltajuk (Kelly). This dinner will
be separate from the Baronial Open House. The Baronial open House will
take place Tuesday August 15 at 7:00 p.m. This is open to all. There will
also be a Baroness' tea at 2:00 p.m. on the 15th.
Baron:
His Excellency is getting ready for the Pennsic camp. There were some
problems with lost registrations for the camp so space may be tight. Alexander
is working with the Landocrat to rectify the situation. He needs to touch
base with all those camping with the Barony as soon as possible.
Alexander would also like to thank those who served as waterbearers for
Encampment at the Castle. Their help was greatly appreciated on a hot
day.
Exchequer:
Lady Bekea announced that a Baronial Royal Travel Fund Challenge will
take place at events. Attendees may place spare change in jars for donation
to the Royal Travel Fund. This collected money will join the orphaned
$.17 collected at RUM.
Bekea also reported that the check to register the heraldry for Baronial
awards has not been cashed. Since nearly a year has passed and the old
check would no longer be valid, she was authorized to issue another check
to the Kingdom College of Heralds.
Due to a church audit, the Methodist Church in Smithville, site of the
Brendokenfest event in September, has requested payment of the site fee
in advance. This would amount to $500. Bekea was authorized to send them
a check for that amount.
Bank account balance: $2105.83
Chronicler:
THL Milica is working on the next issue of the Portcullis which will be
published before Pennsic. Deadline for articles, letters and announcements
will be Monday July 10, 2006.
Minister of A&S: Lord Robert thanked everyone who entered A&S
projects at Encampment. There were 27 entries, a large number for the
late announcement.
Robert would like help in getting photos of scrolls up on the website.
If you have recently received a baronial scroll, please send webminister
Zaliha bint Kizilik (Suzanne) a digital photo of the piece. Justin is
available to take photos at many events. Permission will be needed from
the scribes to include the photos on the website. This may also be sent
directly to Zaliha.
Herald:
THL Gauselin is now warranted. She offered congratulations to those who
have recently received awards. She is still waiting to hear if the College
of Heralds has passed the Baronial Award badges.
Marshal:
Lord Magnus reported that the fighters were still fighting.
Seneschal:
Lord Brice reminded all to be alert at events and watch out for potential
problems. Anyone who sees illegal or suspicious activities should report
them to either Brice, the event autocrat or the group seneschal. Event
attendees should be particularly vigilant about underage drinking.
Groups:
Thistle:
The Marche of the Thistle is now on its summer schedule. They
are very active and having fun.
Gwyntarian:
The Marche of Gwyntarian will host First Contact on Saturday. The event
will have a Japanese theme and will include many activities such as classes,
speakers and a wonderful feast. The feast is very close to selling out.
Baron Nigel is Gwyntarian's new chronicler.
Alderford:
Mastor Justin reported that Alderford will host Oaken
Melee School July14-16 in Roswell. There will be melee practice and a
peasant revolt. Seating for feast is very limited.
Three Towers:
Members of Three Towers are working on the numbers for Encampment
at the Castle but think it went well. They are very grateful to His Grace
Edmund for His help in drawing crowds.
Old
Business:
The Bardic Madness event, scheduled for November 11, needs someone to
head up the cleanup crew. Anyone interested should contact THL Szof. The
event is also considering offering a lunch tavern, either from a group
or from the Barony. If the tavern is offered by the Barony, it will need
to be added to the budget. There will be more discussion at the next Baronial
meeting at Melee School.
Brendokenfest: Kilij (Kelly) reports
that things are going well for the event.
•The event is scheduled for September 23, 2006 in Smithville.
•Baron Ephraim and Baroness Madeleine from Cleftlands will act as
judges for heavy weapons and A&S.
•A rapier judge is still needed, however.
•The Baronial Champions will be responsible for running their own
tournaments.
•Tree stumps to be used for thrown weapons backstops are needed.
•Help is needed for troll as well.
•The event will also feature some non-competitive activities.
•A1/4 page ad (free) will be sent to the Pale for inclusion in the
September
•issue.
•The site will be dry and there will be no alcohol-related A&S
entries.
•Anyone who would like to help with this or other jobs should contact
Kelly.
Jongleurs Guild:
Lady Elizabeth announced that the Guild has met and is still active. She
would like to hold a meeting at Melee School. Elizabeth hopes that more
authentic and period music will be heard in the Barony and is willing
to help others learn to sing and read the music.
Kingdom Exchequer: THL Akira complimented
Lady Bekea on her prompt and accurate reporting of the Baronial accounts
and for her help with answering questions about the office. Hoobah!
Erik: Lord Erik announced that
there will be a demo for Goodyear Engineering on Saturday July 15. A group
will carpool from Oaken Melee School to attend.
Baron Nigel:
Baron Nigel will be posting the Brendoken Order of Precedence online as
soon as possible.
The meeting was adjourned by Lord Brice.
Baroness Catriona announced that a celebration of Baron Nigel's birthday
would take place after the meeting.
Respectfully,
Milica of Varna
Chronicler, Barony of Brendoken
