Minutes for September 24, 2006

Seneschal Brice le Corbet called the meeting to order after an afternoon demo, fighter practice at the Mill following the Baronial Championships for Heavy Weapons, Thrown Weapons and Archery.

Officers:

Baroness:
Her Excellency discussed plans to have a Brendoken-sponsored lunch tavern at Bardic Madness in November. The budget was based on service for 100 which would include: two kinds of sandwiches, soup, fruit, dessert and a beverage. The Barony has some paper products left from RUM. Lady Debforgail would donate meat for the sandwiches. Members of the Barony would be asked to donate baked goods which could also be sold later in the day.
Coordinators would need to borrow roasters and ladels from local groups. Plans are to meet the Friday evening before the event to prep and package food either at the church or a home. Four people, not involved in the bardic challenges, will be needed to work the tavern during the lunch hour. The lunch tavern should make a profit of $200 to $300 depending on attendance. Anyone wishing to serve as coordinator for the lunch tavern should contact Baroness Catriona.
Her Excellency brought the scrolls listing Brendoken's Baronial Champions (crafted by Robert of Bristol). She asked that those present who are current or past champions sign the scrolls in order of their tenure.

Baron:
His Excellency congratulated the champions but had no further business.

Exchequer:
Lady Bekea asked that outstanding receipts be turned in for reimbursement. She reported that the Kingdom Travel Fund change project has collected only $17.35 thus far and that the jar will be at future events. It was suggested that the Barony match the amount donated up to $75. Motion passed.
Current treasury balance (before checks): $2235.83

Chronicler:
THL Milica requested that local group chroniclers send copies of their newsletters to her. She also reminded them that their domesdays would be due to the Kingdom at the end of the year.

Chatelaine:
Lady Maerwynn spoke with several visitors during the championships and gave them contact information for the SCA and Thistle. She would like to produce a flyer to hand out to potential members. Before doing so, she will run it past the Kingdom Media consultant and/or chatelaine. Forward into the Past is also still available as a handout.

Minister of A&S:
Lord Robert needs reports from the local group MOAS' to complete his report. Please send them to him in a timely manner. Robert would also like anyone who plans to compete in cooking, brewing & vintning or performance for the Baronial A&S Championship in November to contact him. (Site is dry and there may be no category for Brewing and Vintning.) No documentation will be necessary for entry in any of the categories.

Herald:
Baron Nigel needs reports from local group heralds to complete his report. He has had difficulty receiving reports in the past. Nigel is looking for a deputy.

Signet:
Lady Zillah reminds everyone that she has been Signet for a very long time. If anyone is interested in the position, they should contact her. If not, she will continue in the job.

Marshal:
Lord Magnus is looking for a place to hold fighter practices.

Webminister:
Lady Zaliha is also in search of a deputy.

Groups:

Thistle:
Lady Mageen reported that Thistle has resumed its fall meeting schedule which is the first and third Sundays at Wadsworth Public Library.
The group is in the planning stages for a spring event which will have a woodworking and siege engine theme. Details will follow.

Gwyntarian:
Lord Jonathan reminded everyone of Gwyntarian's event November 4, Road to Florence. Mistress Arwenna said there will be classes, fencing, games, a silent auction and an Italian feast coordinated by Lady Elisabeth. The event will also host the Baronial A&S and Rapier Championships.

Alderford: Lord Einar reported that Alderford will participate in the Fox Creek Experience demo in Canal Fulton October 15 (Sunday) from
10:00-6:00. Baronial members are invited to join them. Einar is also looking for a place to hold fighter practice during the winter.

Three Towers:
Nothing to report from Three Towers.

Business of the Day:
The Baronial Championships for Heavy Weapons, Thrown Weapons and Archery were held prior to the meeting. The winners are as follows:
Archery: Mokuse Kenshin (runner-up, Offria Pinkhand)
Thrown Weapons: Gabriel Baum (runner-up, Wulfwen atte Belle)
Heavy Weapons: Ragnar Ironhand (runner-up, Robert of Bristol)
Congratulations!

Old Business:

Bardic Madness:
THL Szof reported that Sara Voster (sp?) from Cleftlands would be in chrage of feast for the event which will have a ocean theme. She requested $600 front money to purchase food for the event. While this is contrary to the general rule for fest coordinators, the motion passed and the check will be issued. The church in Smithville has also requested a $50 deposit. Szof reported that she still needs to fill several staff positions:
Clean up/Tear down
Server Coordinator for Feast
Lunch Tavern Coordinator
Anyone interested in these positions should contact her.

Szof has also reserved a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn in Wooster for the event for out-of-town guests and anyone wishing to stay over. Members who live within 30 minutes and would provide crash space for guests should contact her. A location for the post-event revel is also needed.
Anyone who would like to be a patron for the Bardic Challenges should also see Szof.

New Business:
The office of the Seneschal was turned over from Lord Brice to Kilij Kiyan. Any problems dealing with the Barony of Brendoken should now be addressed to him.
Kilij thanked Brice for his hard work and service. Kilij duscussed the future of Brendokenfest and the Baronial Championships: Should they remain in the fall or be moved to the spring? Pros and cons were discussed with no resultion at this time.
Lord Einar of Alderford is looking into autocrating Brendokenfest for next year at a new site in Richville, probably in September or October. He is waiting to hear from the church involved for an Alderford event and will discuss using the facility for Brendokenfest. If this is possible, he will plan to present an event proposal as soon as possible.
Kilij requested ideas for fundriasers for the Barony. He asked Lady Bekea to share the list she compiled last year. He also proposed the possibility of Brendoken hosting a spring event with a Middle Eastern theme such as a Hafla. Other groups have done this and drawn good crwods as well as non-SCA people. Kilij suggested using Lions Park in Akron which will accommodate 150 people. He will do more research on this.
Kilij has requested that each officer appoint a deputy to their position as soon as possible. This position would not necessarily mean that they would become the next officer in that job, but it would have someone in place to carry out the duties if necessary.

Next Meeting:
The schedule has not been made for the next few months.
There will be a meeting October 22 (probably from 2-4) in Smithville at the Mill.
Future meetings will be set at that time.

The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
THL Milica of Varna
Baronial Chronicler
