Letter from THL Tyzes “Zsof” Sofia and Lord Og the Red for election to Baroness and Baron of Brendoken
Unto Alexander and Catriona, Baron and Baroness of the great Barony of
Brendoken, and also unto THL Giles fitz Alan, Seneschal of those lands,
do THL Tyzes “Zsof” Sofia and Lord Og the Red send heartfelt greetings. Word has reached our ears that you wish to retire to the country and are
looking for suitable gentles to succeed you upon the Thrones of Brendoken.
After many long discussions, we desire to place before you and the
people of Brendoken our names for consideration.
Your hard work in the Barony for the last 4 ½ years has been an
inspiration. Watching you, combined with our own love for this barony
and her people, has prompted our decision to put our names forward. You
have set this barony on a path, and we would strive to continue to lead
the barony along it.
Lord Og has been active in the SCA for almost 20 years. In that span of
time, he has worked on staff at many events--as feast steward, troll,
and security. He has honed his craft as a storyteller of great renown,
worked with the children of our Kingdom, and taught classes on making
his special “duct-tape” roses. Lord Og is also well-known throughout the
Known World for his column in the Pennsic Independent, “Og on Alcohol”.
Sofia has been a member of the SCA for 14 years. She has held Baronial
and Shire level offices including Chronicler, Minister of Youth and
Mistress of the Lists. Currently she is the Dean of the Midrealm Page
School and the Dean of the College of Performing Arts for the Royal
University of the Midrealm. She has been event steward for numerous
events including Gwyntarian’s 30th Anniversary, and worked on staff for
many more. Sofia is also known for her work with the youth of the
Midrealm and the Known World Players, a theatre troupe she founded in
1999 that has performed at the Pennsic Wars for the past 8 years.
We bring our hearts, dedication, and passion before you. Our belief in
the barony is matched only by our desire to show the gem of Brendoken to
the world.
We believe strongly that the youth of our barony are our future and
would do all we could to encourage them to find their place in our
society so they can become productive members within it. This has been a
movement throughout the kingdom, and many new activities for youth are
being made available. As baron and baroness, we would ensure that those
were always available to our barony's youth, as well as using our own
experience in this area to find new pursuits. At the same time as we
promote the development from within, we also believe in recruitment of
new people. We would like to increase the baronial presence at the
colleges and universities within our lands so as to introduce new people
to the Society.
We know that the archers, fencers, and fighters in our barony are
praised throughout the Known World for their abilities and we would lead
them and cheer them on to greater feats. In the gentler arts, we would
continue to encourage all the artisans of these fair lands, and try to
bring more people to the Arts and Sciences. Every time we see the hard
work the people of Brendoken have put into their creations we are moved
and would continue your hard work in helping people try new things and
continue to grow more skilled in their crafts. We are also proud that
the people of Brendoken are known for their service to the Barony and to
our fair Kingdom. We would encourage and support this service, as we
know the Society thrives because of the hard work of those who serve it.
We love and enjoy the Society and would like to celebrate the wonderful
and joyous moments in the SCA with the members of Brendoken. We feel
privileged to be able to put ourselves forward for consideration as the
next Baron and Baroness of our home barony, and we thank you for the
opportunity.
Written on the 20th day of August, Anno Societatis 43, by our own hands
in the Barony of Brendoken.
